The Defence and Specialised business unit of Poynting Antennas is involved in the design and manufacturing of a wide range of military and specialised antennas. This business unit has a number of local and international distributors through whom they supply across 16 different countries
The Defence and Specialised division can be divided into 7 product categories:
Direction Finding
Poynting Antennas design and manufactures Direction Finding antennas of all sizes, for all applications. The sizes of these antennas ranges from a briefcase carried hand-operated DF antenna, to large mast mounted arrays. Between these two extremes lie a series of vehicle, tripod, helicopter, ship and submarine-mounted antennas. DF antennas have unique performance requirements, different to any other type of antenna.
Monitoring
Monitoring antennas, whether for a regulatory monitoring or tactical signal detection, require wide band performance, high sensitivity in their frequency range, and a compact form factor. Our range includes active and passive antennas. Active antennas have some advantages insensitivity and compactness, and can improve system performance where small size is required. Amplifier gain also helps to overcome cable and splitter losses further down the chain.
Jamming
Poynting Antennas offers a range of antennas for stand-off jamming applications. Typically these are used to prevent the enemy’s communications from functioning as intended, either by preventing communications entirely or by introducing spurious messages into the communications system. Our stand-off jamming antennas cover frequencies from 500 KHz – 3 GHz. Antennas that cover public broadcast bands can also be used to establish temporary or permanent broadcast facility to disseminate information to the general public.
Counter-RCIED
Radio-Controlled Improvised Explosive Devices (RCIED) are a substantial threat to forces engaged in asymmetric warfare operations. Poynting Antennas has partnered with leading manufacturers of RCIED jamming equipment to provide suitable antennas in man-pack and vehicle mounted configurations. These antennas are typically low profile, wide bandwidth omni-directional antennaswith a low visual signature to avoid compromising operational security. Our antennas provides protection over the entire 20 MHz – 6 GHz frequency range, which includes the frequencies used by citizen’s band radio equipment, pagers, remote controls, portable and cellular telephones, WiFi and other devices that can be used to trigger improvised explosive devices.
LPDA
Log-Periodic Dipole Arrays are wide band antennas providing gain in one direction. They are typically used for fixed and mobile tactical jamming, as they offer a wide range of frequencies, good gain in the forward direction, high power handling and low and stable VSWR. LPDAs can be arrayed for even higher gain, if required. Our product range covers from the smallest GSM-frequency LPDAs, to large VHF jamming antennas.
Communication
Specialised communication products from Poynting can improve the performance of communications systems. A range of communication antennas is available, offering all of the features of our other EW antennas, but optimised for communications performance. A series of novel tuned antennas give excellent isolation between multiple VHF fast-hopping radios operating on one vehicle, while providing superior gain to that of the passively matched antennas normally used.
RF Electronics
Poynting designs and manufactures a range of RF and microwave electronics products, passive and active, to complement our product range. These include RF switches, antenna tuning units, multi-channel gain blocks, power supplies, filters and diplexers. Some antenna products, such as active antennas and direction finding system are integrated with electronics in accordance with the particular application. We are able to customise existing products to our customer requirements as well as rapidly execute new designs for your specific needs.
